Margret Rettich

Margret Rettich (1926–2013) was born in Stettin and studied commercial graphic design at the art college in Erfurt. After working as a freelance advertising artist, she initially illustrated books by other authors. She later wrote and illustrated numerous books for children and young adults, often together with her husband, Rolf Rettich. Her best-known works included the picture book “Zinnober in der Stadt.” In 1981, she received the German Youth Literature Prize for “Die Reise mit der Jolle.” In 1997, she and Rolf Rettich were awarded the Grand Prize of the German Academy for Children’s and Young Adult Literature for their complete body of work.
