Margaret Rumer Godden

Margaret Rumer Godden (1907–1998) was a writer who published more than 60 books, including novels, short stories, poetry, plays, and children’s books. Her works were translated into many languages. She gained international recognition with the novel “The River,” which was adapted into a film by Jean Renoir. Her other notable works include “Black Narcissus,” “The Night of the Demon,” “The Peacock Spring,” “In This House of Brede,” and “The Dark Horse.”
