Margaret Mitchell

Margaret Munnerlyn Mitchell (1900–1949) was an American writer from Atlanta, Georgia. Before becoming known as an author, she worked as a reporter for the Atlanta Journal. During an extended period at home, she began writing her only novel, Gone with the Wind, which was published in 1936 and brought her international fame. She received the Pulitzer Prize for the novel in 1937. Mitchell died in Atlanta in 1949 after being struck by a vehicle.
