Manfred Schneider is a German literary scholar, essayist, and author. He studied literary studies and philosophy in Freiburg, where he also completed his doctorate. He subsequently taught at the universities of Freiburg and Essen and at Ruhr University Bochum, where he held a chair in modern German literature, aesthetics, and media from 1999. His fields of research and writing included aesthetics, discourse theory, the history of questioning, and cultural criticism. His scholarly and cultural-critical books include »Liebe und Betrug. Die Sprachen des Verlangens« (1992), »Das Attentat. Kritik der paranoischen Vernunft« (2010), and »Transparenztraum« (2013). His crime novel »Die Katze schleicht« was published in 2021.
