Maike Rotzoll is a psychiatrist and medical historian. She studied medicine and history in Lübeck, Florence and Heidelberg, and in 2014 completed her habilitation on the history of institutionalized patients up to the Nazi murders of patients. From 1991 to 2001, she worked at Heidelberg University Psychiatric Hospital; from 2001 to 2005, she contributed to a German Research Foundation project on the victims of the Nazi medical killings. She subsequently worked at Heidelberg’s Institute for the History and Ethics of Medicine and held an adjunct professorship in psychiatry and medical history. Her research has focused on early modern medicine, the history of psychiatry, medicine under National Socialism, and art in psychiatric contexts.
