Maia Szalavitz is an American journalist whose work focuses on science, health, addiction, and drugs. Her writing has appeared in publications including The New York Times and Scientific American. She has co-authored several books. Her book *Help at Any Cost* critically examines the influence of so-called “tough love” on drug treatment, particularly for teenagers. She was a Soros Justice Fellow in 2015 and 2016. Her work on neuroscience and addiction also received awards from the American Psychological Association, the Drug Policy Alliance, and the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology.
