Maggie Nelson, born in 1973, is known as a poet, critic, and essayist. She worked at the University of Southern California. In 2016, she received a MacArthur “Genius” Award. Her book The Argonauts received the National Book Critics Circle Award; its German translation was published in 2017. Her other works include Bluets, The Red Parts, On Freedom, and Pathemata. Her writing combines art criticism, philosophy, poetic and autobiographical elements, and addresses subjects including feminism and queerness.
