Maeve Binchy

Maeve Binchy was born in Dublin, studied history and initially worked as a teacher. In 1969, she became a columnist for the Irish Times. She wrote numerous novels, short stories and plays. Her best-known novels include *The Green Shore*, *The Irish Signora*, *A House in Ireland*, *Cathy’s Dream*, *Evening Class* and *Circle of Friends*. Her works became bestsellers in England, the United States and Germany. Maeve Binchy died on 30 July 2012.
