Madeleine Albright

Madeleine Albright (1937–2022), born Madlenka Korbelová in Prague, was an American politician and diplomat. Her family emigrated to the United States in 1948. She served on the U.S. National Security Council from 1978 to 1981 and became U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in 1993. Under President Bill Clinton, she served as U.S. secretary of state from 1997 to 2001, becoming the first woman to hold the office. A member of the Democratic Party, she influenced American domestic and foreign policy from the 1970s onward.
