M. R. Carey was born in Liverpool in 1959. After studying, he worked as a teacher for several years before turning to writing. From the early 1990s onward, he wrote comics for publishers including Marvel Comics, DC Comics and Vertigo. He gained wider recognition as a novelist with “The Girl with All the Gifts,” which was adapted into a 2016 film starring Glenn Close. His later work includes the trilogy about the boy Koli.
