Ludwig Ganghofer (1855–1920) was a German writer. Born in Kaufbeuren, he studied literature and philosophy as well as mechanical engineering. He later worked as a dramaturge and feuilleton editor, including in Vienna. He became known primarily for his regional novels, many of which are set in the Bavarian Alpine region. His best-known works include Schloss Hubertus and the play Der Herrgottschnitzer von Ammergau. He also wrote historical novels, stories, novellas, fairy tales, and poetry.
