Louis Ferron (1942–2005) was a Dutch poet, playwright and prose writer. He was born out of wedlock to a Dutch mother and a German Wehrmacht soldier who died in the war. After returning to the Netherlands, he was raised by his maternal grandparents. His origins and the darker aspects of German history shaped his literary work. Ferron made his debut as a novelist in 1974; his works include “Der Schädelbohrer von Fichtenwald” (1976). In 2001, he received the Constantijn Huygens Prize for his collected works.
