Loriot (born Vicco von Bülow, 1923–2011) was a German humorist, author, director, and actor. He studied painting and graphic design at the Hamburg State School of Applied Arts. He became widely known for his humorous work in magazines including Stern, Weltbild, and Quick, as well as for his television series. As the author, director, and actor of the films Ödipussi and Pappa ante portas, he shaped two of Germany’s best-known comedy films. Loriot was a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin and the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts.
