Liam O’Flaherty (1896–1984) was an Irish writer. He was born on Inishmore in the Aran Islands and died in Dublin. During the First World War, he served with the Irish Guards and was wounded in Flanders in 1917. After extensive travels, he began publishing novels and short stories in the 1920s. He wrote mainly in English, but also occasionally in Irish. His notable works include the short story “His First Flight” and the novel “The Informer”, which was adapted into a film in 1935.
