Leopold Tyrmand (1920–1985) was a Polish writer and journalist. After studying architecture in Paris, he worked in Warsaw as a feuilletonist and sports reporter. Following the Second World War, he returned to Warsaw and founded Poland’s first jazz club. His best-known works include »Diary 1954« and the novel »The Bad One«. Because of his criticism of the Soviet regime, his books were no longer published in Poland from 1965 onward. He subsequently moved to the United States, where he died in 1985.
