Leonard Steckel

Leonard Steckel (1901–1971) was a German actor, radio performer, and director. Before 1933, he appeared on stage alongside, among others, Helene Weigel and Alexander Granach. He emigrated to Switzerland in 1933 and worked at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. From 1957 to 1959, he served as director of the Freie Volksbühne Berlin. Under the direction of Gert Westphal, he played Inspector Maigret in several SWR radio dramas. Steckel died in a railway accident.
