Leonard Bernstein

Leonard Bernstein (1918–1990) was an American composer and conductor. He was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to Ukrainian immigrants. In addition to symphonies, chamber music, and piano concertos, he composed musicals, including *West Side Story*. From 1958 to 1969, he served as music director of the New York Philharmonic.
