Leo Perutz

Leo Perutz (1882–1957) was an Austrian writer and insurance mathematician. Born in Prague, he moved with his family to Vienna in 1899. His first novel was *The Third Bullet* (*Die dritte Kugel*); among his best-known works is *Where Are You Rolling, Little Apple?* (*Wohin rollst du, Äpfelchen?*). His novels combine historical subjects with fantastic elements and have been translated into many languages. In 1938, Perutz emigrated to Tel Aviv and returned to Austria after the Second World War. He died in Bad Ischl.
