Len Deighton

Len Deighton, born in London in 1929, is an English writer and illustrator. He studied at Saint Martin’s School of Art and the Royal College of Art and initially worked as an illustrator for magazines and books. Among other projects, he designed the cover for the first British edition of Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road.” He wrote his first novel while on holiday in France in the 1960s. Deighton became known chiefly for his espionage thrillers, including “SS-GB”; he also wrote historical novels, cookbooks, and nonfiction.
