Maria Lazar (1895–1948) was an Austrian writer and translator. She attended Eugenia Schwarzwald’s girls’ school and, from the early 1920s, worked as a translator and contributed to Austrian, Scandinavian, and Swiss newspapers. From 1930, she published under the pseudonym Esther Grenen. After the National Socialists came to power, she emigrated to Denmark with her daughter in 1933 and fled onward to Sweden in 1939. In 1916, she was portrayed by Oskar Kokoschka in the salon of Eugenia Schwarzwald.
