Lauren Child

Lauren Child (born 1967) is an English children’s author and illustrator. She grew up in Wiltshire and studied at the City and Guilds Art School in London. After working in various jobs, she published her first children’s book in 1999. She is known for characters including Clarice Bean, Charlie and Lola, and Ruby Redfort. In 2000, she won the Kate Greenaway Medal and was shortlisted for the award twice more. From 2017 to 2019, she served as the tenth UK Children’s Laureate.
