Lang Lang, born on 14 June 1982 in Shenyang, China, is a Chinese pianist. He began playing the piano at the age of three, gave his first recital at five, and was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing at nine. He later studied in the United States with Gary Graffman. He gained international attention at 17, when he stepped in at short notice for pianist André Watts and performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. His major public appearances included the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2014 FIFA World Cup final in Rio de Janeiro. Time magazine included him in its list of the 100 most influential people. In 2016, he published the multi-volume piano course “Lang Lang Piano Method”, later released in German as “Lang Lang Klavierschule für Kinder”.
