Lama Ole Nydahl (born 1941) is a Buddhist teacher in the Tibetan Karma Kagyu tradition. Together with his wife, Hannah, he was among the first Western students of the 16th Karmapa. After three years of studying Buddhist philosophy and undertaking intensive meditation practice, he began teaching Buddhism in the West and establishing meditation centers at the 16th Karmapa’s request. In 1972, the 16th Karmapa sent him to Europe as a Buddhist teacher; a few years later, Nydahl was appointed a lama. Over the course of his teaching career, he founded more than 600 Buddhist centers worldwide.
