Knut Boeser (born 1944) studied comparative literature and philosophy in Berlin and Paris and earned a doctorate. He worked as a freelance writer, first as chief dramaturg and later as artistic director of the Renaissance Theatre in Berlin. He subsequently served as chief dramaturg at the State Theatres of Berlin. Boeser edited books on Max Reinhardt, Erwin Piscator and Oskar Panizza.
