Klaus Mann (1906–1949) was a German writer and dramatist, born in Munich in 1906 as the eldest son of Thomas Mann. He emigrated from Germany in 1933 and became an active anti-Nazi writer and publisher in exile. Among other projects, he edited the journal Die Sammlung and became an American citizen in 1943. His best-known works include the novels Mephisto: A Career and Der Vulkan: The Novel among Emigrants, as well as the autobiographical work The Turning Point. Klaus Mann died by suicide in Cannes in 1949.
