Kerstin Groeper, born in Berlin in 1961, studied social pedagogy and worked as a journalist for various magazines. She writes historical novels and children’s books, often dealing with Indigenous cultures of North America, as well as crime novels set in Siena. Groeper speaks Lakota and has given talks and seminars on Lakota language, culture, and spirituality. In 2011, she served as an adviser to the “Indianer” exhibition at the Lokschuppen museum in Rosenheim; from 2009, she moderated the Karl May Festival in Radebeul. Her novel “Donnergrollen im Land der grünen Wasser” was shortlisted in 2018 for the Homer Literary Prize for best historical novel. Her first Siena crime novel, “Im Schatten des Palio,” marked her debut in the genre.
