Kent Haruf (1943–2014) was an American writer. All six of his novels are set in the fictional small town of Holt, Colorado. His work received, among other honors, the Whiting Foundation Writers’ Award, the Wallace Stegner Award, and the Mountains & Plains Booksellers Award. His final novel, *Our Souls at Night*, became a bestseller and was adapted into a film starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford.
