Ken Bruen (born 1951 in Galway) is an Irish crime writer. He studied at Trinity College Dublin, where he earned a doctorate in metaphysics. Before beginning to write in the mid-1990s, he spent 25 years working as an English teacher in South Africa, Japan and South America. During that period, he was briefly imprisoned in Brazil. His best-known works include the White Trilogy (1998–2000) and The Guards (2001), the Shamus Award-winning first novel in the Jack Taylor series. He also wrote a series featuring Inspector Brant. The Jack Taylor series was adapted for television in 2010.
