Kayo Mpoyi was born in 1986 in Kinshasa, Congo, and grew up in Tanzania. She moved to Sweden at the age of ten. She studied at the Biskops-Arnö writers’ school and worked as a media producer. Her debut novel, “Mai bedeutet Wasser,” received the Katapultpriset for the best Swedish debut of the year. The book was inspired by myths and stories told in her family.
