Katrin Tempel was born in Düsseldorf in 1967 and grew up in Munich. She studied history and political science and initially worked as a journalist before becoming editor-in-chief of several magazines, including LandIdee. She also wrote screenplays, including the historical two-part ZDF television drama Dr. Hope, as well as novels. Her novels Holunderliebe and Mandeljahre achieved major popular success. Under the pseudonym Emma Temple, she published further novels with Piper, including The Mists of Connemara.
