Kathrine Kressmann Taylor (1903–1996) was born in Portland. After studying at university, she worked as a journalist and copywriter. In 1938, she published the epistolary novel “Address Unknown,” which became a bestseller in France and Germany more than six decades later. Her second novel, “Bis zu jenem Tag,” was published in 1942. She later taught at Gettysburg College.
