Kate DiCamillo was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1964 and grew up in Florida. She studied English literature and is known as an author of children’s and young adult books. Her award-winning works include *Because of Winn-Dixie*, *Kentucky Star*, *The Tale of Despereaux* and *Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures*. She received the Newbery Medal twice, including for *Flora & Ulysses*. *Because of Winn-Dixie* and *The Tale of Despereaux* were adapted for film.
