Kate Beaton (born 1983 on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian cartoonist and author. She studied history and cultural anthropology in neighboring New Brunswick. While working, she drew cartoons and later published them online. Her notable works include NEVER LEARN ANYTHING FROM HISTORY and HARK! A VAGRANT. In 2009, she received the Doug Wright Award for Best Emerging Talent for her debut, NEVER LEARN ANYTHING FROM HISTORY. HARK! A VAGRANT won a total of four Harvey Awards in 2011 and 2012.
