Karoline Preisler

Karoline M. Preisler, born in East Berlin in 1971, is a lawyer and qualified teacher of German as a foreign and second language. At the age of 13, she came under scrutiny from the East German Ministry for State Security. In 1989, she took part in the peaceful revolution in the GDR. Preisler joined the Free Democratic Party (FDP) in 2013. In 2021, she published her first book, “Demokratie aushalten! Über das Streiten in der Empörungsgesellschaft” (“Putting Up with Democracy! On Disagreement in a Society of Outrage”). The book earned her the Amos Prize from the Open Church. In 2024, she received the Eugen Kogon Prize. Preisler is the mother of four children.
