Karlheinz Rossbacher

Karlheinz Rossbacher was born in 1940 in Waidegg, Carinthia. He studied German and English at the universities of Vienna, Innsbruck and Salzburg, and, on a Fulbright scholarship, at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. From 1966 onward, he taught at the University of Salzburg, where he was a professor of German studies until his retirement in 2008. His research and publications address the reception of James Fenimore Cooper’s “Leatherstocking Tales,” Heimat art and literature, Vienna’s Ringstrasse era and the turn of the century. Together with his wife, Constanze, he edited the letters of Alexander von Villers. His personal alphabet, “Lesen und Leben,” was published in 2013. Rossbacher received scholarships and awards.
