Karl Jaspers

Karl Jaspers (1883–1969) was a German philosopher and psychiatrist. After studying law, medicine, and psychology, he initially worked as a psychiatrist and taught psychology at Heidelberg University from 1916. In 1921/22 he became professor of philosophy there. His major works include *Psychology of Worldviews* and the three-volume *Philosophy*. Jaspers was removed from his post in 1937 and reinstated in 1945. From 1948, he taught philosophy in Basel.
