Kai Kupferschmidt (born 1982) studied molecular biomedicine and subsequently trained at the Berlin School of Journalism. From 2010 onward, he worked as a freelance science journalist and author for major newspapers and science magazines, including Süddeutsche Zeitung, Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, Die Zeit, and the US journal Science. In 2013, he received the Media Award of the German AIDS Foundation.
