Junichiro Tanizaki

Junichiro Tanizaki (1886–1965) was a Japanese writer. He authored numerous novels, plays, and essays, including *In Praise of Shadows*, *Love and Sensuality*, and *Diary of a Mad Old Man*. In 1964, he became the first Japanese person to be appointed an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
