Julia Friedrichs, born in 1979 in western Münsterland, studied journalism in Dortmund and Brussels. She has worked as an author of reports and documentaries for WDR, ZDF and ARD, collaborated with the editorial team of the production company docupy, and written for Die Zeit. In 2024, she co-founded the production company Tell Me Why with Jochen Breyer. Her books include Gestatten: Elite. Auf den Spuren der Mächtigen von morgen (2008), Ideale. Auf der Suche nach dem, was zählt (2011), Wir Erben. Was Geld mit Menschen macht (2015), and Working Class. Warum wir Arbeit brauchen, von der wir leben können (2021). Her journalism has received, among other honors, the Axel Springer Prize for Young Journalists, the young talent award of the Franco-German Journalism Prize, the Dr. Georg Schreiber Media Prize, the Grimme Prize, and the Hans Matthöfer Prize for Economic Journalism.
