Julia Child

Julia Child (1912–2004) was born in Pasadena, California, and was an American cookbook author and television personality. In the 1950s, she moved to France with her husband, diplomat Paul Child, and trained in French cuisine. Together with Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle, she founded the École des Trois Gourmandes cooking school in Paris. Their collaboration led to her best-known work, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, which has been widely reissued since the 1960s. She also gained broad recognition through her television program The French Chef. Julia Child died in Santa Barbara in 2004.
