Judith Kuckart

Judith Kuckart (born 1959 in Schwelm, Westphalia) is a German writer and director. She trained in dance at the Folkwang School in Essen and studied literature and theatre studies in Cologne and Berlin. In 1984 or 1986, she founded the Skoronel dance theatre in Berlin, with which she realised numerous productions until 1998, working as a writer, dancer, choreographer and director. Her first novel, *Wahl der Waffen*, was published in 1990. Her subsequent works include *Lenas Liebe*, *Kaiserstraße*, *Die Verdächtige*, *Wünsche*, *Kein Sturm, nur Wetter* and *Café der Unsichtbaren*. *Lenas Liebe* was adapted for film in 2012, and *Wünsche* was longlisted for the German Book Prize in 2013. Kuckart received, among other distinctions, the German Critics’ Prize in 2004, the Margarete Schrader Prize for Literature in 2006 and the Annette von Droste-Hülshoff Prize in 2012.
