Juan Rulfo (1917–1986) was a Mexican writer, photographer, and editor. Born in a village in the state of Jalisco, he worked, among other positions, in advertising, as a proofreader, and at Mexico’s National Indigenous Institute in Mexico City. After publishing his major literary works, Rulfo largely withdrew from writing and devoted himself in part to photography and to editing research volumes.
