Josef H. Reichholf, born in 1945 in Lower Bavaria, is an evolutionary biologist and ecologist. Until 2010, he headed the Vertebrate Department at the Zoological State Collection in Munich and was a professor of ecology and conservation at the Technical University of Munich; he also taught at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Reichholf has published numerous books on evolution, nature and ecology, including “Das Rätsel der Menschwerdung,” “Eine kurze Naturgeschichte des letzten Jahrtausends” and “Rabenschwarze Intelligenz.” His awards for communicating science include the Sigmund Freud Prize for Scientific Prose in 2007 and the Treviranus Medal. “Rabenschwarze Intelligenz” was named Science Book of the Year in 2010.
