Jon Peterson is an American author and historian of games. In 2012, he published Playing at the World: A History of Simulating Wars, People and Fantastic Adventures, From Chess to Role-Playing Games, a source-based history of games leading up to role-playing games. He was a co-author of Dungeons & Dragons: Art & Arcana (2018), which reached the finals of the Hugo Awards. Peterson also contributed to the scholarly collections Zones of Control (2016) and Role-Playing Game Studies: Transmedia Foundations (2018), and wrote for several gaming and geek-culture websites.
