Jon Kabat-Zinn (born 1944) is an American emeritus professor of medicine. At the University of Massachusetts Medical School, he founded the Stress Reduction Clinic and the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society. He developed Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), a program that systematically connects mindfulness practices with medical care. Kabat-Zinn studied with Buddhist teachers including Thich Nhat Hanh and Zen Master Seung Sahn, and was a founding member of the Cambridge Zen Center. His work helped establish mindfulness as an approach used in medicine and health care.
