John Wyndham, born John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris, was born near Birmingham in 1903 and was an English science-fiction author. Before turning to writing in 1931, he worked as a farmer, graphic artist and advertising professional, among other occupations. He also published under the pseudonyms John Beynon and Lucas Parkes. His best-known works include The Day of the Triffids and The Midwich Cuckoos, adapted as the film Village of the Damned; several of his novels were filmed. During the Second World War, Wyndham worked as a code specialist with the Royal Corps of Signals. He died in London in 1969.
