John Vaillant

John Vaillant, born in the United States in 1962, moved to Canada in 1998. He is an author and reporter whose writing on extreme natural phenomena has appeared in publications including National Geographic, The Atlantic, and The New Yorker. His first nonfiction book, “The Golden Spruce” (“Am Ende der Wildnis”), received the Governor General’s Award in 2005. His international bestseller “The Tiger” was published in 2010. In 2014, Vaillant received the Windham–Campbell Literature Prize. “Fire Weather” (“Die Bestie – Wie das Feuer von unserem Planeten Besitz ergreift,” 2023) was nominated for the National Book Award and won the Baillie Gifford Prize.
