John Piper

John Piper, born in 1946 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is an American theologian and author. He studied literature at Wheaton College and theology at Fuller Theological Seminary. In 1974, he received a doctorate in theology from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich for a dissertation on loving one’s enemies, supervised by Leonhard Goppelt. From 1980 to 2013, Piper served as pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis. He founded Desiring God and served as rector of Bethlehem College and Seminary. Piper has written more than fifty books, which have been translated into several languages.
