John Jakes

John Jakes is an American writer best known for his historical novels. His most notable work is a trilogy about the American Civil War: “North And South” (1982), “Love And War” (1984), and “Heaven And Hell” (1987), published in German as “Die Erben Kains,” “Liebe und Krieg,” and “Himmel und Hölle,” respectively. The three novels were adapted as television miniseries in 1985, 1986, and 1994; the German versions were released under the shared title “Fackeln im Sturm.”
