John Gardner (d. 2007) was a British writer. During the Second World War, he served first in the British Royal Air Force and later in the Royal Navy; after the war, he briefly worked as a Royal Air Force chaplain. From 1959, he worked as a theatre critic and journalist before turning to fiction. He published his first book in 1964 and began the espionage series featuring Boysie Oakes in the same year. He also wrote thrillers and stories continuing the adventures of Professor Moriarty. From 1980 to 1996, Gardner wrote 14 official James Bond novels. “GoldenEye” and “Licence to Kill” were adapted into feature films.
